About the Haliburton Highlands

What attracts people to the Haliburton Highlands is the beautiful scenery and 600 Algonquin-style lakes. What makes them stay varies because there is so much that this area has to offer. Haliburton County is only 2 hours from the GTA, and the cottages here are still within an affordable price range. As an added bonus the annual taxes are significantly less than the Muskoka area or the City of Kawartha Lakes.

There are also many different routes to get to Haliburton County from the GTA, as opposed to one main vein that can get congested on weekends heading to and from the cottage in the Muskokas. Haliburton County tends to be less crowded and current lot restrictions require our lots to be a fair size for any newly created lots (min. 200ft frontage). There is also a lot of vacant lakefront land in Haliburton County, allowing people to purchase land and build from scratch instead of having to tear down existing structures.

There is an extensive art community here including multiple galleries, art in the park, the sculpture forest, Northern Lights Performing Arts Pavilion, as well as an art college (Sir Sandford Fleming) offering courses all summer that cottagers can enroll in. There is a wide range of recreational activities from ski hills, snowmobiling, ATV'ing and dog sledding to water sports, fishing, hiking and biking as well as 5 golf courses, the Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Center and countless summer camps.

We have 2 local hospitals within a close drive to most lakes that provide great 24/7 care with a short wait time for any accidents, injuries or health concerns while cottaging or living here. Haliburton and it's surrounding area is also appealing to baby-boomers selling their top dollar homes in the GTA to retire to this area at an affordable purchase price.

There are over 100 lakefront resorts, inns, lodges, and bed & breakfasts to stay at. You can easily find accommodations ranging from family friendly to romantic to outdoor adventures. There are multiple great restaurants for dining out that appeal to even the most picky palates. When you are looking to relax, escape the hustle and bustle, not have to think twice about traffic congestion and just enjoy tranquility, Haliburton Highlands is the place to be!
